MAA Emergency Agenda Item
There was
an emergency MAA agenda item sent out to each of you club President or Club
Representatives this past week. In short
it pertains to changing the bi-annual MAA meeting from a Friday evening each
May and November to a Sunday afternoon after the tournament held at the club
that is has a shoot scheduled for that appropriate Sunday. Your clubs votes
needs to be back by February 1st
at the latest. If you club can get it's vote back to the MAA prior to that
deadline it would be greatly appreciated. The only reason for the rush is to
implement it this year and to make sure that the changes get into the schedule
on the Webpage, Archery Guide and Pocket Guide.
NFAA Agenda Items for Club Vote
NFAA (National)
agenda items for your Club’s NFAA/MAA member’s votes were sent out to your club’s
Representative. The deadline for you clubs response is February 8th. Please make sure that you voice is heard.
Some of these agenda items are important topics for many MAA members.

Agenda Items
1. Bylaws
VII, A, 1 currently reads: (page 14)
A.
MAA Annual Charity Tournament:
1.
An annual Charity Tournament will be held on the first Sunday in May. All
registration fees
plus any unused balance of club assessment fee shall go to a worthy charity as determined by the MAA Council. The MAA Charity Tournament
is considered a promotional event; therefore, under
NFAA rules for state associations, MAA only members
may compete.
CHANGE
the last sentence to read: The
MAA Charity Tournament is considered a promotional
event; therefore, under NFAA
rules for state associations, it does not require NFAA membership.
Explanation: The NFAA Constitution and Bylaws stipulates
that promotional shoots are to be held
as open shoots, not requiring membership in anything. There are to be no MAA only shoots and MAA membership is to be for
noncompetitive and/or financial purposes.

2. Bylaws VII, A, 3,J
(under Charity Tournament) currently reads:

J.
Guest class awards will be presented at the completion of the
tournament. All MAA class awards will be presented at the MAA State
Awards Banquet.

the above in its entirety.
Explanation: As an “open” shoot you will not have any
guest classes or separate awards for MAA
members.

3. Bylaw VII C MAA State Championship
Tournaments #1 currently reads:
The purpose of a state championship tournament is to
determine the MAA State Indoor division and flight champions, the MAA State
Field division and class champions, the MAA State Animal division and class
champions, the MAA State 3D division and flight champions, the MAA State FITA
Indoor Division champions, MAA State Outdoor Target division champions, and the
MAA FITA Field division champions. MAA
State Championships at MAA State Indoor, Target and Field Championship
tournaments may be awarded only to MAA members who are also NFAA or NAA
members. MAA State Championships at
Remove last two sentences and insert: MAA State Champions will only be awarded to
NFAA/NAA/MAA members.
Explanation: The NFAA Constitution and Bylaws require that
any State Championship held by the state association
must require NFAA/NAA membership, which includes 3D.
Submitted by Sue Blickenstaff – VP of Tournaments
Passed
- All clubs, except BB, Abstained
5. Remove the Marked and Unmarked 3D State
Championships and replace them with a 1 day 3D Challenge
or Jamboree run by MAA with an IBO type class added. The targets would be set at unmarked distances and a marked distance sheet would be available to
those that want to shoot marked 3D. The MAA/host
club split would remain the same.
Explanation:
The attendance on our State 3D shoots has been very low for the past several
years. Many do not want to
change their bow from IBO/ASA standards, hence the IBO style class added. By removing the championship shoots and
replacing them with a promotional type shoot we can hope to increase participation as it will be
open to everyone with no affiliation requirements. Many shooters who are not ready to shoot championship
status will hopefully be attracted and encouraged to join not only a local club but MAA and NFAA.
It will benefit not only MAA but all clubs.

by Sue Blickenstaff – VP of Tournaments
>>> Classes for the above type shoot to be
approved by the Executive Board.
Passed – All Clubs except OA &
HB abstained
6. Bylaw VI, C, 1 (page 12) currently reads:
ROUND
ROBIN AWARD – A special award shall be given when a state archer has competed
in at least one sanctioned
shoot at each affiliated range with an approved range and holding scheduled
field shoots between September
1 and August 31. A photocopy of the member’s handicap card shall be submitted
to the state president by the
end of the first day of the annual MAA
Field Championship. The copy will be verified
against the handicap card, exceptions to the above will be handled by the
Executive Committee on a case
by case basis.
ADD
the words “that holds at least two” after ….at each
affiliated range.
Explanation: To provide an MAA member at least two
chances to shoot at each affiliated club for the
Round Robin Award. Please note that if a
club fails to have 2 shoots then the MAA member can still receive a Round Robin Award by shooting the other
clubs that have at least 2 shoots.

7. Bylaw IC – page 1
Maintenance of Club Charter
Add #4 – Hold a minimum of two scheduled
NFAA shoots between September 1 and August 31.
Explanation: Since each affiliated club’s range must be
approved every two years by the NFAA Director
and since NFAA recognizes 3D
and NAA/FITA Rounds, this does include the 3D clubs as well as the NAA/FITA Clubs. It stands to reason that the MAA membership
should be able to shoot any approved affiliated
ranges at least twice a year.

CHARITY SHOOT FORMAT CHANGE
To promote
more attendance and to encourage more participation (by having more people stay
around for the auction) the Charity shoot chairperson along with the MAA
President would like to change the format of the Charity shoot for 2006
only. This would be a one time format
change and if it is successful, an agenda item will be submitted for a vote at
the May 2006 MAA Board of Directors meeting for permanent change.
Under this
format any club having the room and 14 field targets could hold the Charity
shoot. This would encourage more clubs
especially the smaller ones to hold this State run tournament.
**
3D – 3D shooters will shoot
the standard amount of targets (15 or 20), whatever the host club
can
provide.
** Dot shooters – a 14 target Expert Round will be
shot. A regular Field Face (no special
target needed) will be used; the only difference is
that each ring is scored. The scoring is
5-4-3-2-1.
This makes the
tournament a fun shoot which this really should be promoted as such. This would have the dot shooter come off of
the range much earlier and the 3D shooters will not be waiting around for them
to finish.
In the past
many of the 3D shooters would leave because they did not want to wait until

by Colleen McGowan, MAA President & Bob Sales,
Charity Shoot Chairman.
Passed – All clubs – Format change
for trial basis for 2006 only.
We also
suggest that we discontinue the certificates for the charity shoot. There is more time spent printing them and
getting them to the people who won them, and then the person who won it spends
looking at it. We could discuss maybe
giving some kind of high over all award or using the
NFAA handicap system (such as AAA uses for some of their shoots) could be used
to give out any awards for dot shooters.
Someone who shoots 3D regularly would need to help us come up with an
award system for them.
